All Hope Is Not Gone

   
In May 2012, we moved into a commercial building in the industrial sector of Greenpoint, Brooklyn to write our second album, “In Human Form”. Living in our practice space, we sacrificed our creature comforts for creative freedom. With no residential neighbors to complain about the noise, we were able to play whenever inspiration struck. Unfortunately, all of our attempts to make the space livable failed. We built a makeshift shower using some plastic tubing and a microphone stand, though it had to be removed when it began leaking on the tenants below. We had to hide all traces of us living there incase an authority showed up. Beds were exchanged for couches. Our kitchen consisted of a microwave and hotplate, and we often skipped meals, saving money to fund the recording sessions we had booked for December. Determined to make the album a reality without outside support, we lived as cheap as humanly possible. At times the living situation drove us insane, though it forced us to escape into our music. Consumed by the writing process, every aspect our lives revolved around the band. There were weeks when we hardly left our space, and rarely saw our friends and family. While it was a struggle for us personally, this album couldn’t have been made any other way. We were recently kicked out of our building. As I write this, the four of us are scattered around the city, crashing couches and trying to figure out what’s next. It seems the only thing left to do is to release our music. “In Human Form” will be released on August 13, 2013. If the music resonates with you, please share it.      Διαβάζοντας το παραπάνω κείμενο (αλλά κυρίως ακούγοντας την μουσική) των Grandfather, ένιωσα ένα μουσικό deja vu. Από αυτά τα οποία προσεύχεσαι καθημερινά να σου συμβούν. Ξέρεις για τι μιλάω. Όταν ανακαλύπτεις από το πουθενά ένα συγκρότημα και μέσα στο χρονικό διάστημα μιας ώρας έχεις γίνει fan. 

      Πραγματικά δεν θυμάμαι σε ποιο site πέτυχα τους Grandfather, απλά τους έριξα μια αυτιά μόνο και μόνο εξαιτίας της περιγραφής της μουσικής τους. Μετά είδα και τα ονόματα που είναι "μπλεγμένα" στη δημιουργία του καινούργιου τους δίσκου και αυτομάτως κατάλαβα. 90's freaks ενωθείτε. Το ντεμπούτο τους κυκλοφόρησε το 2010 με  τίτλο "Why I'd Try" και στην καρέκλα του παραγωγού κάθισε ο Steve Albini. Πρώτο πλιτς. Στο "In Human Form" που θα κυκλοφορήσει στις 13 Αυγούστου, την παραγωγή και την μίξη έχει αναλάβει ο Alex Newport (Mars Volta, Melvins) ενώ το mastering o Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Soundgarden). Δεύτερο πλιτς. Βέβαια τα ονόματα δεν λένε απολύτως τίποτα από μόνα τους αν δεν υπάρχει το κατάλληλο υλικό. Και οι Grandfather το δίνουν και με το παραπάνω.

      Πάρε ένα υβρίδιο φωνητικών του Maynard, βάλε τα lead των early Pearl Jam και από πάνω πρόσθεσε μια τζούρα με post grunge σκοτεινή ατμόσφαιρα των 90's. Ξέχασα το βασικότερο. Χαρακτήρας. Μπες στο Grandfathermusic.com και άκου σε stream τραγούδια από τον καινούργιο τους δίσκο. Ψάξε σαν μηχανή αναζήτησης τον προηγούμενο. Δύσκολο search αλλά θα αποζημιωθείς. Κάτι μου λέει ότι μέχρι το τέλος της χρονιάς θα έχει πέσει πολύ συζήτηση για πάρτη τους. Κάτι μου λέει ότι οι Dead Sara δεν είναι μόνοι τους πλέον. Ήρθε η ώρα να βγάλω το καρώ πουκάμισο από τη ντουλάπα...
